In order to strengthen the community PVM
participants and conduct many social mobilisation programmes, which
comprised number of programmes such as
1.Camp Activities :
In
order to care for the helath of children and aged people in rural areas.
the health and medical camps helped to identify and refer children and the
aged people for Vitamin A supplementation and cataract operation
respectively. All these activities were organised as group based
camps.

2.Water and Sanitation activities
:
In association with Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Foundation,
new Delhi and Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board, Ramanathapuram, PVM
undertook the following activities with active participation of the
community under 90% subsidy scheme.
1. Social mapping to identify
the water resources in villages.
2. Drinking water and health
committees were established.
3. Establishing bore wells in the target
villages with the motor pumps where acute drinking water problem
existed
3.Tuberculosis Prevention
Program:
Under revised National Tuberculosis control programme
PVM identified and trained the Women SHG members as volunteers involved in
TB control activity jointly with District Health Department. Many
identified TB cases were cured through DoTs (Direct Observation and
Treatment System) - 12 volunteers are actively involved in it.
4. Prevention of Anaemia among
Adolescent Girls and Pregnant Women :
In association with
Tamil Nadu Voluntary Health Association, Chennai. PVM had undertaken a
Survey on Anaemia and Health Promotion among adolescent girls and pregnant
women in target area. A final survey was conducted which revealed that 50%
of the women are anaemic. Through periodical meetings, awareness
discussions, the adolescent girls and pregnant women are motivated and
monitored to ensure the intake of iron, healthy food and vegetables.
5. Rainwater Harvesting :
Awareness on the need for rainwater harvesting and water
conservation had been organised at Ramanathapuram on 19.4.2008.
Municipality chairman and counselors participated in this activity.
6. Human Rights Day
:
World Human Rights Days was celebrated by PVM to the
socially disadvantaged groups and the people living with HIV / AIDs and
the children affected by AIDs.
7. World Water Day
:
World Water Day was celebrated by PVM in villages along with
the participation of public, youth, women, Chairman of Municipality,
officials of Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board, District Enviornment
Engineers and members of local government.
